Dear Diary, my secret fear is...

Little Monster bought a Hello Kitty diary with her own money the other day.  She saved up allowance and tooth fairy money to buy something on her own.  (Btw- apparently the tooth fairy is doing well for herself in the recession because she gave LM 5 bucks for her first lost tooth.)

Anyway, so she picked out this diary and when we get in the car she starts writing in it.  Her first entry:
Dear Diary,
My secret fear is lightning bugs.

She's terrified of lightning bugs.  Runs screaming into the house like they're evil invaders of Planet Firefly out to install little lights on all of our butts.

(She's actually terrified of all bugs.  When we leave our house to go out, she runs clear out into the middle of the lawn in this huge wide circle to stay away from the flowers in the garden in front of our house because there are bees on them.  I don't have the heart to tell her there are probably a ton of bees out on the clover in our grass. )

Little Monster then decided no one can read it, except Mason, Kenzie, Hunter, Ava, Chandler, her whole summer school class, and pretty much the entire neighborhood.  So she needed to hide it from the poor soul who isn't included in her list of people that are allowed to read it.  Which may in fact be me, now that I think about it.

So she told me she was going to hide it where NO ONE can find it.  And then showed me where she hid it in our closet.

So that got me thinking: do you have a secret fear?  Maybe an irrational one that seems silly, but is SO not silly to you?

Go ahead, spill it.  I'll make sure no one sees your answer.  Except maybe Mason, Kenzie, Hunter, Ava, Chandler, the entire neighborhood and the whole blogosphere.  But NO ONE else.  I swear.

Here's mine: My secret fear is walking on those sewer grate thingies on sidewalks in the city.  No matter how big or how wide, I have to veer completely around them, even if it means walking in the street to possibly get hit by a bus.

Can't really think of a fear. Except that I don't ever want to be alone.

Hahaha, I love that she's keeping it a secret except for all of those people! Too cute! And hmmm, a secret fear? Yep, I'm pretty much terrified of bees. If I see one, I can't speak or move. I just freak out.

I think it is radical that your daughter is writing like you!

My fear: small spaces. No closets for me.

As a kid, I developed the habit of always taking an even number of steps between the cracks in the sidewalk. Apparently the world will collapse if I accidentally get to the building on an odd number. Yes, I still do it and you are all welcome.

Bahahaha! She's ridiculously adorable. I love that you weren't on the list but she hid it in YOUR closet. Lol.

Let's see...I have lots of irrational fears that are completely stupid. Toe socks. Those effers give me the willies! It's like multi-colored monkey feet! Nope. Yuck. Ventriloquist dummies. Can't stand those guys. BLECH! Walking up stairs that aren't solid all the way around (the space under the spot where you step is all open? ooookie) Going to bed, turning off all the lights and settling in only to realize you donno if the front door is locked. That moment is scary (ANYONE COULD HAVE SNUCK IN AND COULD BE WAITING FOR ME TO GET UP!), small evil things running around below knee level. Walking into Banana Spider webs. (just those kinds of spiders. the other webs don't bug me so much) See, stupid nonsense! lol.

I don't know about secret fears, but I have a major well-known irrational fear of heights that I discovered on the Eiffel Tower a couple years ago. I literally thought I was going to fall through the crack between the support beams and the floor (after having backed away from the rail in a panic), and I was only a third of the way up. We never made it to the top :(

How precious!!

Oh I totally hop over sewer drains, grates, anything covering a hole into the depths of the earth. I'm SO with you on that. Of course, when I was about 6, I had a nightmare that I was stuck in a drain (the ones in the curb) with my upper body in the street and my legs dangling down in the hole. That could be one of the reasons.

What are lightening bugs?

And I love Hello Kitty!

Elevators. But I don't think it's irrational because I've been stuck twice - once all by myself in the dark for an hour and the other time in a super crowded one full of prego women ready to pop.

I heart LM. It's so cute that she showed you her hiding place!! And that no one can read it except for that entire long list of people.

I won't walk on sewer grates either! I will go around them, no matter how many people on the busy sidewalk I tick off. I just feel like the one time I actually step on one, it'll crack and down I'll go into the sewer.

*shudder*

It's times like this and reading or hearing charming little stories about my friend's kids, that I really wish I was blessed with children.

I had always wanted kids, but it just never panned out.

As for fear, heights was big on my list, but that's changed to confined spaces. If I can't see out, I become anxious and can't breathe. Suffocating is another fear I have. When I moved to the midwest, I have been tormented by allergies and sinus conditions. NOT FUN. So not being able to breath really can freak me at times.

Otherwise I'm a happy an fun person.... as long as I can breath. LOL.

Ba ha ha! Your daughter is hilarious.

I am afraid of ants. It sounds ridiculous, I know. But I was attacked by an ant swarm as a kid, so it's sort of a psychological thing. One at a time, they're not problem. But in massive swarms that take over my driveway...ugh. I completely freak out.

Man, she's adorable.

For me, it's falling down stairs--my depth perception isn't awesome with my sunnies on (and they're prescription, so they can't come off), so I'm always nervous!

That story about LM is so cute!! Love that her first purchase was a diary. Thanks for sharing ~ :)

I have an irrational fear of the ocean...all I can think is "Sharks!!" I watched Jaws as a kid and it scarred me for life, I'm pretty sure.

Like others - confined spaces, too. I have this recurring nightmare about being stuck underground and the only way to get out is to army-crawl through a small, long, tunnel... *shivers* Not good.

Cute! My son also has "secret" hiding places (that he shows me) and a "secret" journal that he writes about his bestest days and memories so he never forgets them. Love it!

Secret fear...I don't know if I have fears as much as I have issues...germ issues. I can't stand when people wear their shoes in my house because of all the places they've been: public restrooms, parking lots (gum, spit, who knows what), restaurants, airports, argh! Although I do have the completely normal aversion to heights. I wash my floors as soon as people with shoes on leave. My husband thinks I'm nuts.
