Finally Raising the White Flag

Okay.  So I never thought I'd utter the words I'm about to say.  Never.  But I'm giving up.  Raising the white flag.  You win, I lose.  I couldn't hold out forever and the opportunity presented itself so here goes....

Whew...  Okay, I'll just say it....deep breath....

I'm getting a kindle.

Omg, I can't believe I just said that.

You see, when the ereader first came out I vowed never to buy one.  Blasphemy! I cried.  What an abomination!  I need cold, hard books in my hands!  I need to support my fellow authors!  I don't want libraries and books to go away in favor of the ebook!

But as the years passed, I started to think a little more about them.  Maybe they weren't so bad.  I mean, lots of my writer friends started epublishing and it'd be SO nice to support them and buy their ebooks.  Then when they opened up library books to check out, I thought, well, that's cool- I can bring a library book on vacation without worrying about losing it.

So when my friend told me she was getting a Kindle Fire for her birthday and asked if I wanted her 1 year old kindle, I decided to throw in the towel and just take the plunge.

So I'm buying her 3G kindle and I'm very excited about it!  I get to support all my friends who have epublished, check out books from my library, get all those cool old books that are free, AND I will still buy those hard copy books I can touch and smell, so I can support my friends that publish that way too.  Because I will NOT give up my library, no matter how popular ebooks become.  But who says I can't have both?

So how many of you have raised the white flag and finally bought an ereader?  Or were you on board from the beginning?  Or are you still holding off, hoping its just a fad that will pass?

I got one for my birthday last year, Abby, and it's been amazing :) Books are cheaper, I can carry more of them, holidays are no longer an exercise in suitcase-and-back-muscle endurance and I'm supporting more writers than ever without making bits of my house cave in from too many books!

It's fab. Hope you enjoy it :)

Yay!!! I PROMISE you'll love it! I never would have experienced Kindle if my husband hadn't bought my iPad. Read my blog a few posts back. I did a blog about all the wonderful reasons for eReaders - the freebies, dicovering new authors at low prices, discovering new genres, being able to take 50 books to the beach...there are very few downsides, and it it no way prevents you from reading your favorite paperback!

Hehe, I felt exactly the same when I got mine. I got mine about 8 months ago or so and to honest I don't use it THAT much ... I'm still a lover of the print book and always will be. I pretty much use my Kindle to read manuscripts on and review copies etc, and obviously to purchase and support fellow authors. My reading pattern is generally two to three print books in a row and then one e-book. and YAY! Now you've got one! Excellent! :o)

Welcome to the world of eBooks! I've had an iPad for almost two years now and I've only purchased one physical book in that time. EReaders rock!

I have Kindle for my PC. It was a free download. My hubby and I both want an ereader, so that will probably what we give each other for Christmas 2012.

I got my Kindle two summers ago, and I love it. I still buy regular books (I'd say I buy maybe 30% of my books for the Kindle, and 70% are still old fashioned paper books). When I went on vacation last year, I downloaded 10 books to it. Would never have packed that many in my suitcase - too heavy. And right now I'm reading Stephen King's latest, which is a doorstop in hardcover (it's much easier on the Kindle).

Don't feel guilty! Enjoy. :)

A big YAY! I love mine. It's so so SO easy to buy and download books. It took me one or two novels until I got used to it, but now it feels more natural than a physical book.

I got a Nook for my birthday this year, and I love it! Books are so cheap on it, and even though I love decorating with books around my apartment, it's so nice to go on vacation with just one slim thing to carry!

I haven't caved yet, but I've never actually said I won't get one in the future. I can see the appeal, but as of right now, I still don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. LOL.

NOT I! Blasphemer...;) No, it's a really good deal. I caved and got kindle on the ipad to help with a blog tour that will be going on in March. But...I won't actually BUY books for it...nope. lol

I bought a Nook which pained me because I LOVED Borders and it hurt to buy a product from B&N.(I did have a Sony to start until I broke it!) It's nice for traveling and reading a ton of books on without having to pack a ton. But I still love my hard copies.

Yay, yay, yay! It took me a while to get one (I was kind of anti in the beginning), but I LOVE it! You're right - who says we can't have both?! I have a rapidly growing paper library - and an even more rapidly growing e-library!

Ha, you're going to laugh when you see what I just posted on my blog...anyways, no I don't have one. I bought one for hubs, so I use his to buy ebooks that friends publish so I can support them. But I love my paper and ink... I may get one for travel at some point, but I love collecting physical books and having them sitting all over my house.

I have yet to buy and e-reader but I have a free Kindle for Mac, so I download some stuff here and there. I have a lot of writer/blog friends who have e-books and no print copies available, so it's has to be.

I'm thinking of getting an iPad. We'll see!

Since I got my Kindle a few months ago, the majority of books I have bought have been paper. I've had a series of excuses, but I like the feel of books.
