Look At Yourself...Now, Look At Me

So, many of you know I work at a library.  I love when I tell people I work there, because they always go "OMG, I would LOVE to work at a library!  I'd be able to just sit and read all day, and help people find books!"  Wrong.  Boy, would that be awesome if I could do that all day.  Instead, we get to do things like watch the creepy guy in the corner with the wandering eye, help a lady find info about the growth on her butt, and herd people in and out of the computers all day.  Well, I don't technically do that anymore- I am more "behind-the-scenes" (translation- hiding in an office away from the patrons- but I totally still love you, I promise!).  But seriously, we love what we do.  And we really do help all kinds of people with all sorts of information.  Because dude..it's a library- anything you want to know?  We'll help you find it (well, our Reference staff will...don't call me, I'm too busy).  We have knowledge for FREE.  (okay, well, not technically free since your taxes pay for us...but still, awesomely pretty-much free).

Anyway, so we found this video BYU made to promote their library.  O.M.G.  It's hilarious.

So THEN, my good friend Sarah from the GreenBeanTeenQueen posted this on her facebook page, and I just about died.  Grover has always been my favorite and this video proves how awesome he is (and it's totally made BY Sesame Street)

So I really have no point to this post, except to say how awesome libraries, Sesame Street and Old Spice are.  They relate to each other somehow, I swear.

Yes Libraries rock! (my teenage self would be looking around nervously hoping no one heard her actually admit that) <- I just want to punch her in the mouth. I love books!

Great videos! Thanks for sharing!

Lol, Colene- I won't judge you ;p

Yes, I think the childrens and teen librarians are wonderful and give SO much!

I was a student librarian at the BYU library in the video! I loved working there, despite (or maybe especially because) of the odd happenings. Thanks for sharing this!

That's awesome Shallee! That video is such a big hit- everyone loves it.

Both the videos are hilarious! It's crazy how many parodies those Old Spice commercials have spawned. Thanks for sharing!

I hadn't seen the library one - that is PERFECT! I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. One of my besties is a librarian and she LOVES it. I can't remember the last time I was at our library and saw a librarian sitting down. Who thinks you get to read all day??? I would have never thought that.

Love this post...I'm in childrens at a library and I don't think I get to set down until lunch break. I love being busy though and the library environment is a joy to work in.
Could Grover be any cuter?

Kelly- seriously, I know. I could spend hours on youtube looking at all those videos!

Jennie- I've really had people say that before...you'd think they have never actually been IN a library if they say that ;p

Library Gal- yes, I have great respect for Children's Librarians- you really don't get to sit down at all. Plus everyone just thinks of you as babysitters! But the library is really great and I love it too. And yes, Grover is still the cutest after all the years!

I swear this just made my whole flippin' day! Those are hilarious! Don't you love when people think you don't do anything?! When I told someone I took my library media certificate test someone looked at me and said, "Could it really be that hard? Isn't the Dewey Decimal all you need to know?". Seriously, dude? There was only one question on the whole exam about that. The rest had to deal with computer software, copyrights, how to handle budgets, and things of that nature. Putting a book on a shelf is hardly the extent of a librarian's day!

I love the library!!! I used to be afraid to use my library card (who knows why) but that has sense changed. So when you don't find me lurking around the bookshelves at the library it's because I'm at a bookstore!

If only I was able to sit and read books all day-that would be awesome! Nope, I answer the weird questions, chase adults away from the teen space, run programs, make displays and booklists, and talk to teens about books, school, life-yeah, I never sit down (well, OK, I do sit down at the desk, but I'm always working, not reading!)

And I LOVE these videos!:)

I love BOTH those videos. So awesome.

Angela- oh I know- so many people don't know you need a masters to be an actual Librarian.

Jen- I do like to buy books every once in a while too- especially my favorites- I feel like I'm supporting the author (even though technically you support the author by checking out their books too) but there is something about buying the book that makes it special too.

Sarah- You are totally the best YA librarian out there (wait, have I said that before?) You even work from home!! All that reading and blogging- you are super-librarian!

Jenny- I know. Now I feel like I have to live up to those videos and post even more awesome videos next time.

LOL
Super vids.

I love libraries. I did always want to work there (still do), but I can see the librarians aren't sitting around reading. They always look busy.

I wish my local library was like that! That's so cool!
